What Is Shirodhara?
Shirodhara comes from "Shiro" (head) and "Dhara" (flow). Warm medicated oil is poured in a continuous, gentle stream over the forehead — specifically the Ajna Marma point — for 30 to 45 minutes. The steady rhythm quickly guides the brain from active thinking into a deep state of rest.
How It Works
The constant flow and warmth calm the hypothalamus and balance the Vata dosha, which governs the nervous system. The oils used — like Brahmi, Bhringraj or sesame based preparations — are chosen according to your condition and further nourish the scalp and hair.
Who Benefits the Most
Shirodhara is especially effective for stress, anxiety, insomnia, migraine, hypertension and mental fatigue. Students, professionals and homemakers with overactive minds often feel the difference after the very first session. It is also a powerful support during recovery from burnout.
What to Expect in a Session
A session begins with a short head massage, after which you simply lie down and let the oil flow. Most people drift into a state between sleep and wakefulness. Afterwards, rest quietly for 15 minutes and avoid cold water and screens. A course of 7 to 14 sessions gives the most lasting results.
